A soundbar
A soundbar is the simplest upgrade over television speakers. Connect it by HDMI ARC or eARC so the television passes surround and Dolby Atmos tracks straight through.
Surround and Atmos
Most streaming services offer 5.1 surround on their films, and many recent releases include Dolby Atmos, with sound placed above you. Top Gun: Maverick, Mad Max: Fury Road and Dune: Part Two are showcase tracks.
Dialogue
If voices feel quiet, try the dialogue or voice setting on the soundbar or television, or a night mode that evens out loud and soft passages.
Headphones
On a phone or tablet, good headphones and the service's spatial audio setting bring much of the same detail to a late-night viewing.
